Not at all. Most people who book me feel a bit awkward in front of a camera, and that's completely normal. I'll guide you through simple prompts and movements during your session so the photos feel natural rather than stiff — you don't need any experience or a 'good side' worked out in advance.

Wear something that feels like you. I generally suggest solid colours or soft patterns over busy prints or logos, and coordinating (not matching) if there's a group of you. If you're unsure, send me a photo of a few outfit options before your session and I'll help you pick.

That depends on what you're after. Many sessions happen outdoors around Timaru and South Canterbury — the botanic gardens, the beach, or a spot with meaning to you — while business and portrait sessions are often shot on location at your workplace or a studio setup. We'll choose the location together based on the look you want.

Yes, and I keep those sessions relaxed on purpose. There's no forced smiling or long posed line-ups — we let the kids move, play and be themselves, and I capture the genuine moments in between. It usually gets better photos than a stiff, posed session ever would.

Definitely — a lot of my clients tell me this before we start, and it's one of the most common things I hear. My approach is built around making people feel comfortable, not staged. We take it slow, I'll direct you gently, and most people relax within the first few minutes once we get moving.
